Due to an EU requirement for compliance with RoHS 2002/95/EC
and WEEE 2002/96/EC, from 1st July, 2006, Aluminium parts
requiring finishing with Alocrom 1000 will be finished
using Iridite NCP, and Alodine 1500 with Iridite NCP.
For Aluminium parts requiring finishing in Alocrom 1200,
this is still available (although not regarded as compliant),
but will eventually be replaced by Iridite NCP. Iridite
NCP is a clear finish, and not yellow as in Alocrom 1200.
In terms of mild steel finishing, gold passivation will
be still be available (although not regarded as compliant)
but will eventually be replaced with a passivate that
is compliant (currently available) and will be a much
paler/muddy yellow in colour; clear passivate is currently
regarded as compliant.
All the new finishes will be equal, or superior to, existing
finishes and we are advised that we should convert to
them immediately, rather than use those that are currently
available but are due to be phased out.
All our present finishes are technically compliant; these
changes are as a result of changes within the plating/chemical
supply side.
